A Pause in Progress

Below are the latest pictures of the new building on campus. We have had to take a break in the construction due to a couple of reasons: we need to raise a bit more money to complete the work...and that coincided with the holiday break.

The building plans were approved based on the estimate given by the engineer and knowing what we had been able to raise for the building, almost exclusively by the Churches of God in Illinois. While everyone knows there will be issues which arise which cause a building project to go over the initial budget, that was accounted for somewhat. However, what could not have been accounted for accurately was the recent increases in costs here in Kenya (as it is across most of Africa) due to inflation and the installation of the new government and constitution here in Kenya which included massive increases in taxes.

NOT including landscaping, work on the new parking lot to be in front of this building, and the new entrance gate and roadway near this building, we need to receive between $8000-9000 in order to properly complete the project. This is in spite of me being able to find legitimate places to cut costs which amount to more than $8600. So, before the savings I found, the cost would have been 43% above budget. We have been able to find ways to bring it in at about 18% over the estimated budget without lowering the quality of the building. We need help, though, with this balance.

In addition to a few more small, finishing projects which need to be completed, there are three remaining major projects on the building in terms of cost. 1) Completing the wiring of the building and installation of lighting fixtures, outlets, etc. Power has been run to the building and the conduit has been run throughout the building, but the wiring itself will cost almost $2000, plus the lights, etc. 2) The flooring needs to be finished, which should cost about the same. 3) Painting of the building, inside and out. Some of the undercoat has been done at this time. The cost on this should be about the same as the other two main projects.

Please prayerfully consider donating to this project through Church of God World Missions. Please contact me if you need assistance.
