A Safari on the Way

A safari is a journey and we are about to make a long journey ourselves. I will be leaving in 1 week to return to the U.S. Tanya and Amber will be joining me at the end of the school's term in about 3 weeks after that and then we will return to Kenya at the beginning of May.

We had some family issues arise which prompted the trip, but rather than spend a lot of money for just that, I carved out some time to spend meeting with churches and pastors; to reconnect with some, to make new connections with others, and to share the vision and responsibility of Discipleship College.

In some ways, I do not look forward to being away from the college. There is still much work to be done here and a 6-week absence does not seem helpful. However, it is still vitally important that our church body in the United States stays connected with us and the crucial ministry that is going on here.

You see in the last several posts on the blog, we have been able to accomplish much in the physical facilities and ministerial training of the Church of God (and other churches) in Kenya and East Africa (e.g., we just received our first-ever student from Rwanda this term). However, there is much left to do. We are working to become self-sufficient here at the college through expanding our programs at the school and starting a dairy farm on our 16-acre plot about an hour from the main campus, but it will take a bit of support to get that off the ground. This is one of the things I will be sharing on my short trip to the States.

[We also really want to see our son who we haven't seen since last summer. It wasn't until after the trip had been approved and scheduled that it dawned on me that I would be there during the heart of his junior baseball season. We will be making at least one college recruiting visit while I am there. He has several teams showing interest in him ranging from one of the best junior college programs in the country to NAIA and Division III schools to Div.I/ACC teams and a couple of pro teams. Pray that God would direct Nathanael and open the right doors for him.]
