We have a wonderful course in our curriculum for first-year students: Discovering Ministry. During this course, or rather three 1-credit hour sections which stretch through the whole first year, the students are introduced to various forms and methods of ministry and spend time examining their own calls and giftings. Since our normal children's ministry expert, Kathy Watson, is back in the U.S. on furlough, I stepped in at the end of Term III to introduce the students to puppet ministry. Tanya and I left children's ministry behind several years ago, but we still own a few puppets. I pulled out the container and tried to refresh myself even as I was opening their eyes to a different way to impact lives for God. All of us had a great time!

Gene with Harry. I can still do the ventriloquism act with my lips and voice, but had a hard time getting back into the character dialogue after all this time. Harry was actually the puppet of Bernie Watson, Kathy's husband who passed away. Harry was passed on to me several years ago when Kathy came to do a Kid's Krusade at our church in Hawai'i. Talk about a world traveler!!!
The students getting their chance. They actually did a very good job learning the techniques.
